FlightCheck Online Client
Do It on the Desktop (excerpt from Markzware web site)
The first true application for preflighting was Markzware Software's landmark
FlightCheck, which first appeared in 1995 and quickly became the industry standard
for electronic preflighting. In fact, it has become such a standard in electronic
prepress that the word "flightcheck" has become a neologism that is synonymous with preflighting.
FlightCheck begins with Ground Controls (sorry, no Major Toms), where you set up
what you want FlightCheck to look for. It is possible for service providers
to set up Ground Controls based on their equipment and requirements, save the settings,
and give them to the user, who can load them into his copy of FlightCheck.
When a file is ready for output (well, is perceived as being ready for output), the
content creator runs FlightCheck, which then analyzes the layout file (QuarkXPress,
PageMaker, InDesign, and a host of other file types), all the linked graphics
files and fonts, as well as system and printer settings. When it is finished, you
are presented with a detailed report showing all the specifications of your job including
which ones are good and which are bad (based on the Ground Control settings).
FlightCheck will also tell you how to fix the various problems.
